In the range of intermediate diameters between gun drilling and BTA drilling, it offers a flexible solution with a double setup called the "GDK System", to make the best use of both types of tools. This unique feature of the "GDK System" allows the operator to choose the most suitable tool based on the hole diameter, the material of the part, and the surface finish requirements. The ability to quickly switch from one setup to another offers remarkable production flexibility, reducing setup times and optimizing the drilling process.
Drilling diameters with gun drill: 6 - 24 mm; drilling diameters with BTA tools: 18 – 51 mm. This wide range of diameters covers most deep drilling applications on cylindrical parts. Gun drilling is ideal for smaller diameters and for achieving holes with high precision and good surface finish. BTA (Boring Trepanning Association) technology, on the other hand, is more efficient for larger diameters, offering high feed rates and good chip evacuation.
It can continue with boring up to a diameter of 65 mm. In addition to drilling, the IMSA MFTB 1500/51CR GDK machine can be used for boring operations, allowing the hole diameter to be increased up to 65 mm. This additional capability further expands the machine's machining possibilities, eliminating the need to transfer the part to another station for this specific operation.
